I met an interesting word today, and I admit, it was completely new and unknown. I've done some digging and as it turns out: it is something useful and rare! Do any of you know what the word 'linchpin' means? Yes? Well, be very proud: I guess you are one of the few. To everyone else: don't worry, we'll learn it right know!
Linchpin, dear reader is much like the metallic item shown in the photograph. It is a pin that is placed through an axle to secure something like a wheel onto its place. I have no clue how useful this might be for you, but it's not something I would use everyday. However, it has a second meaning.
A linchpin is a part (or a person) that is vital for the functioning of a thing. For example, Steve Jobs can be said as a linchpin for the success of Apple. Or a chain is a linchpin in the bicycle's functionality. Or, Help Me English is the linchpin in your learning of the English language! :)
Many thanks, from Brazil.
